Renishaw is pleased to unveil the machine that it is developing specifically for production manufacturing. Provisionally named EVO Project, it is the first additive manufacturing system designed and engineered in-house at Renishaw and reflects the company’s 40 years of experience in supplying high quality equipment to demanding global manufacturing businesses.
The new machine, which has a strong emphasis on automation, monitoring technologies and reduced operator interaction, is designed for single material industrial production. Powder handling is almost entirely hands off, whilst powder recirculation, recycling and recovery are all carried out within the inert atmosphere of the system, protecting both the user and the integrity of the material.
Available from Summer 2015
The EVO Project machine incorporates a high power 500 W laser which will aid productivity whilst still maintaining precision and surface finish. It also boasts a class leading high capacity filtration system, a large 19” HMI user interface and intelligent workflow to further reduce the need for operator interaction. The new machine, which is planned to be available in the second-half of 2015, is designed to complement and not replace the current Renishaw AM250 system which is better suited for flexible manufacturing and research applications where changes between materials are a requirement. The AM250 has an interchangeable hopper system which allows various materials to be used on the same machine.

Motorex refill system
The idea for Mini Sprays, which can be refilled as often as users want, stems from the fact that large (500 ml) spray cans are not always convenient to use. Each Mini Spray kit consists of three empty 50-ml spray cans. Each can has a base label, and the package contains a sheet of self-adhesive labels for the most commonly used sprays from the Hi-Tech range.
Now any user can put together a personalized set of the sprays they use most often. Just choose the right label from the sheet and apply it to the space intended for it on the Mini Spray. The refillable MINIS are filled straight from the large standard spray can, which functions as a dispenser. Just place the empty Mini Spray on a firm, level surface, remove the spray nozzles from both cans, shake the dispenser and fill the small spray.
Always at hand
Many users told Motorex how inconvenient it can be to carry a large spray can while assembling equipment or working in cramped spaces. The company responded by introducing a REFILL SYSTEM for its nine most popular Hi-Tech sprays.

The Swedish tool manufacturer Seco Tools has optimised one of its most successful inventions, Minimaster, the tool system for milling operations with exchangeable fluted inserts. The Minimaster Plus® for significantly higher precision and process security has been presented to the market at the AMB 2014.
With the highly productive Minimaster Plus tool system with replaceable fluted inserts, there is no longer a need for re-measurement of tool length. The Minimaster Plus product range offers a large selection of shanks and inserts especially for demanding milling operations.
Efficience as key word
Productivity, precision and full flexibility are the key focus points of the Minimaster Plus. The broad range of steel and carbide shanks as well as square shoulder and ball nose inserts was increased by special high-feed inserts for highly dynamic application. These inserts feature internal coolant channels which ensure that Minimaster Plus cools quickly and deals efficiently with chip evacuation. The range is also enhanced by special three-flute inserts in short versions for higher feeds.
Security as key word
Minimaster Plus was specially developed by Seco with the aim of delivering higher product security. This is ensured by the high precision and security of the interface offering a run out precision of approximately 10 µm. Between the exchangeable carbide insert and the shaft, an internal thread and an external taper offer high reliability, while an internal taper and threaded centre pin both ensure additional reliability. Due to the axial stop a high repeatability is achieved when replacing the insert so that the replacement can be done without removing the tool from the spindle. This will gain valuable production time and increase productivity as re-measurement of the tool length is no longer necessary.

The grand opening represents yet another milestone on the company’s dynamic path to further expand its united global presence and be closer to customers long-term. The global headquarters in Tokyo, which opened in July, will control the Asian markets.

At the heart of the 21,000 m² Swiss site is a state-of-the-art technology centre. Here, highly qualified engineers will permanently showcase up to 30 high-tech machines on the 1,000 m² exhibition floor – all in a new, uniform design, and all with CELOS. With its apps, CELOS technology simplifies processes from the idea to the finished product. For DMG MORI, it’s a major step forwards towards Industry 4.0.
The global headquarters in Winterthur provide a base for six companies within the group. The sales and service region covered stretches from Scandinavia to South Africa, and from Portugal to Russia, and even includes the United Arab Emirates and India. It will be also be responsible in future for a total of 1,000 employees in the various companies, generating a business volume of around €1 billion.
Currently, some 180 employees work in the site on Sulzer Allee; overall, the building has the capacity for a workforce of up to 250. Bundling the expertise of central functions such as applications engineering, key accounts and marketing will also create additional synergy. With capital expenditure totalling CHF 60 million, the company has also underscored the significance of cooperating successfully.
The site also includes a forward-looking energy park which generates some 45% of the electricity needed at the location, thus cutting energy costs by more than 277,000 CHF. All the electricity needs of the modern offices, which cover a total floor area of 6,745 m², are met self-sufficiently. The building is indeed Minergy labelled.
The 4th Exhibition for Metal Working & Forming, AMB China 2014, successfully closed its doors in the Nanjing International Expo Centre in October.
AMB China 2014 covered an area of nearly 24,000 m2 in hall E and hall F in the Nanjing International Expo Centre, a significant increase compared with last year. The exhibition attracted 257 enterprises, representing a more than 40% increase to last year.
Successful fourth edition
The trade show registered over 11.000 professional visits from China and abroad, representing a 15% increase compared with the visits of last year. 69% of the visitors came from Jiangsu Province, while more than 5% of the attendees came from overseas destinations. The strong attendance of buyers from the Yangtze-Delta Region underscores the huge market potential of AMB China. Due to the strong political support of the governmental institutions of the city of Nanjing and the Jiangsu Province, as well as with the support of professional associations, experts and enterprises from China, the fourth edition of the show was able to achieve an impressive growth rate.
Very positive feed-back
The general assessment of visitors was very positive: 90% evaluated the show as very good. The number of visitors involved in buying decisions at the management level increased to 87%. An impressive 96% of the visitors reported that they intended to invest or place orders. Being very happy with the results achieved that AMB China 2014, 93% of the visitors reported that they will recommend attendance of AMB China to their colleagues.
AMB China 2015 will be held October 19-21, 2015 at the Nanjing International Expo Centre.
The recently introduced CoroCut® QD concept for deep external grooving and parting off from Sandvik Coromant, now adds internal machining to the application range of these secure and reliable tools.
The CoroCut QD system from October 1st will include CoroTurn® SL blades for deep grooves in internal machining. The modularity of the CoroTurn SL interface enables tool assemblies to be optimized for the specific application.
High process security
Internal grooving and parting off with long overhangs require stability and tooling solutions that keep vibration to a minimum. The stable clamping mechanism on the CoroCut QD tools is now supported by the possibility to use Silent Tools™ dampened boring bars for vibration-free machining with long overhangs. For tube-shaped components, typically found in the oil and gas industry, this is welcome news enabling deep internal grooving to be machined with high process security.
As with the previously introduced CoroCut QD tools, the extended assortment features over- and under coolant. The over coolant takes care of chip control while the under coolant prolongs tool life, together further adding to securing the machining process.
