Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

It is the end of the year and then time for the wishes! After more than 200 posts on the blog and a sharp increase in the attendance, I am happy to thank you for your confidence in Eurotec. Your visits on the blog is the proof that it is a good complement to the magazine.

A though year for everyone
Yes, there was that credit crunch that affected the whole world. Some are already out of the mess and for some, difficulties will carry on a little bit longer. Nevertheless experts (quite a lot of them at least) seems to agree to say that 2010 should be the year of the return of the growth.

Wishes
It’s all I wish for everyone, a good restart of the economy. We are working on some nice supplements for 2010 and I am sure that you will find it even more valuable to work with Eurotec to reach people that counts for you, people active in the “small and precise” and able to say “yes” to your offers.
Meanwhile I wish you Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

The blog will be on hold for a few days and I’ll be back next year (on January 3, 2010).
Next issue of Eurotec is planned for February and will be full of added value content (we are working on articles with Esco, Tornos, Humard, Tavadec, Application s Ultrasons, Makino, Meyrat, Körber, Motorex, Posalux, Zecha and many more… don’t miss it).

All the best and see you next year!
Cheers

PartMaker Version 2010 is Now Available

The latest PartMaker Version is officially released; packed with new functionality and enhanced capability. PartMaker Inc., a division of Delcam Plc, is pleased to announce that PartMaker Version 2010, its latest version of PartMaker Software for programming CNC Mills, Lathes, WireEDMs, Turn-Mill Centers and Swiss-type lathes is now available.  PartMaker Version 2010 is the most significant PartMaker release made to date as it features a number of new powerful features and enhancements that will allow users to program faster, make more complex parts and take advantage of the latest in machine tool technology.

A new milestone
“PartMaker Version 2010 is the most significant release made to date and will provide every PartMaker user an immediate productivity improvement,” states Delcam’s PartMaker Inc. Division President, Hanan Fishman.  “Plugging into Delcam’s development staff, the largest in the CAM industry, has facilitated the incredible leap in technology included in PartMaker Version 2010.  Perhaps most importantly, all the new technology in PartMaker Version 2010 is provided in PartMaker’s industry leading easy-to-use user interface, allowing users to truly take advantage of the new functionality Version 2010 provides.”

Major highlights

  • 5-Axis Simultaneous Milling for Multi-Axis Lathes
  • More powerful milling functionality
  • Enhanced grooving routines
  • Faster tool path creation
  • Improved solid model-based programming tools
  • Better visualize thread whirling.

A host of additional productivity, user-driven enhancements will also be featured in PartMaker Version 2010.
Let’s see in detail the thread whirling highlight.

Improved Thread Whirling Programming and Simulation
PartMaker Version 2010 includes an improved facility for automating the programming and simulation of thread whirling, a programming technique often used in the programming of “bone screw” threads as well as other specialty threads commonly found on threaded surgical implants.  The popularity of thread whirling attachments on Swiss-type lathes have grown substantially in recent years because of the dual benefit this technique offers manufacturers making threaded parts.  Specifically, thread whirling allows threaded products to be produced faster because this technique only requires a single pass, where as traditional multi-pass threading routines require multiple passes to achieve the same result.  Additionally, with the rigidity afforded by a sliding-headstock Swiss-lathe, thread whirling can also provide higher and more repeatable precision.
PartMaker Version 2010 includes specially developed algorithms and user interface to automate the programming of this unique manufacturing technique.

PartMaker Inc. is a subsidiary of Delcam Plc, the world’s leading developer and supplier of complete CAD/CAM software solutions.  Delcam Plc is publicly traded on the AIM exchange in London.  While PartMaker is sold direct in North America by PartMaker Inc. PartMaker is sold overseas through a network of sales partner offices operating in over 120 countries.

Forecreu’s tooling division

The new Coolant Fed Drill material presented by the French manufacturer of hollow bars is designed to give outstanding accuracy and to achieve better efficiency and cost reduction.

Thru-hole machining
Working with this technology allows to use higher cutting speeds and higher feed rates. Some other advantages are not to be missed:

  • The cutting effort is reduced and far more stable
  • Formation of chips is controlled
  • Longer tool life working in special alloy
  • Optimum performance in high speed machining

.Quality of the tools
Obviously the quality of the tools depends on the quality of the material. Forecreu, specialized in providing high quality material in an extensive range of grades also proposes material to produce tools.

“Quality is life” says François Ory, CEO of Forecreux, he ads: “We all at Forecreu team promise you the quality of products and services”

Back chamfering without re-clamping

What’s happening, when a work piece needs deburring on the back side, which is hard-to-reach or where a turning over of the part is not possible?

From left to right: MiquMill Frontchamfer and MiquMill Backchamfer.

A new solution
With a new cutting tool Mikron Tool SA Agno provides the solution. It’s a milling cutter, which has been especially designed for back chamfer milling of contours and bores in smallest dimensions. Compared to other products available on the market it has up to 50% more teeth. This results in a better surface quality also at high cutting speeds. Most particular are also the dimensions: Already for smallest holes and micro machining, starting from diameter 0.4 mm and depths of 5 x d, it can be optimally used.

Small and precise
In other words; its main applications are wherever within small dimensions high quality and accuracy are required. Typical examples are the watch industry, medical engineering, automotive (fuel injection) or electronics. Best results are achieved by considering various factors. Mikron Tool recommends conventional milling in two steps, thus avoiding secondary burrs.

Two steps for a better result
The quality and the straightness of the bore are of utmost importance, particularly for small diameters. For this reason also for short bores a preliminary pilot hole is recommended. For hard metals over 56 HRC a special execution is provided to guarantee best results. Particular attention has to be given to the milling strategy: in case of ductile or big chips at the bore end, a straightly lateral feed of the chamfer mill can result in tool breakage. In this case a different approach, which is easily realizable on every CNC machine, is recommended.

Available… today
Standard sizes from 0.36 to 5.7 mm for hole depths to 5 x d are available from stock. Besides Mikron Tool supplies also special custom tailored executions, including for the simultaneous deburring and chamfering of the front and the back side of the work piece. You can download the brochure here.

Soon Christmas here…

This is the reason why we changed the header of the blog. For those who are lucky to go on holidays in a few days, Eurotec wishes all the best already today!

More than 200 posts to inform you
For about one year now, we’ve been informing you day after day on the form of the blog. This is an ideal complement to the paper issues of the magazine. I would like to thank you all for the support and help in the extraordinary story of Eurotec… there are more things to come.

One year as publisher
After one year as editor and publisher, I can say that we’re on the right path. Obviously the year was not a very good one in term of economy, but we remained with faith to inform our readers and help companies promoting their products. I remind you that every article published on the paper issues are available to download here. I also benefited from the sales team of Eurotec, thank you Nathalie and Véronique, this has been a though year for you too. The whole team of VNU was also there supporting me day after day… thank you too. Finally there was advertisers and readers without whom nothing would have been possible… thank you too!

.
Still a lot of ideas
For the future, we have some good ideas to help you being even more accurate in your communication to companies active in the “small and precise”. Obviously it is not always clear for people that our magazine allows them to touch various fields of activities in that general frame of “small and precise” and we must clarify our unique position in Europe.
.
I know it’s early to write a Christmas online card… and? Nothing! I’m happy to wish you Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Cheers
