Machines

A little known and very important aspect of the production process…

March 2010

An introduction to the problems encountered in the field of chip treatment and filtration. When you talk to industrial people, you very quickly get onto the subject of their production means and they very often highlight the added value of the machines or facilities.

Chip treatment and filtration is a field which is much more seldom taken up, but it is a subject of great ecological and economic importance. We met Mr Eichler, CEO of Rimann/Aryma AG, who offer a complete range of services in chip treatment, filtration and regeneration of cutting fluids. Once machining operations have been carried out, chips must be evacuated from the machine, cleaned and treated with a view to be able to manage them efficiently and recover the oil or emulsion.

No idle time for chip-treatment systems Chip treatment requires a reliable, simple and sturdy solution and if there are any problems, the manufacturers must be able to rely on quick and efficient after-sales service. Even if chip treatment might seem of little importance at first glance, it can quite quickly become a nightmare. The quality of the components and ergonomics provided are thus elements which contribute to the value of manufacturers’ production.

Shared experience… Chip production requires a particular know-how depending on the material machined, the type of machining operation or even on the lubricant, and it is the same case for chip treatment. Rimann is offering a turnkey chip-treatment solution which takes into account all of their customers’ individual parameters. Why should you change you treatment system? Chips usually contain between 10 and 20% oil. The extraction of the oil can not only re-inject large quantities of lubricant into the company’s supply – being able to supply clean chips for re-cycling also avoids any problems. Even an increase in 10% in lubricant recovery can make a big difference. The environmental aspects mustn’t be neglected either – oily chips which contaminate their environment when they are handled, loaded or transported are not acceptable (not to mention transport and safety standards).

We will come back on this important topic in Euroetc’s next issue.
