PartMaker and Gildemeister partners for productivity

Gital America endorses PartMaker as the leading off-line programming system for programming Gital Multi-Axis lathe. PartMaker Inc. and Gital America have entered into a strategic partnership to greater enhance the productivity of programming Gital’s line up of multi-axis Turn-Mill centers and Swiss-type lathes.

Many leading Gital users around the U.S. and the world have already standardized on PartMaker for programming.  This partnership marks a move by Gital to encourage the more productive off-line programming of its machines. Under terms of the partnership, Gital applications engineers will undergo training on PartMaker for use with their applications requirements and cooperate with PartMaker Software Inc. in the support of programming for new Gital machine models that come to market place.

Vero Unveils VISI 17

Vero Software, a leading provider of CAD/CAM/CAE solutions for the tooling industry, are pleased to announce the latest release of its flagship product VISI 17. The latest developments see further emphasis on end-user productivity in all areas of the product

Dramatic improvements
The system graphics have been dramatically improved after major development collaboration with both AMD and Nvidia. The use of VBO’s (vertex buffer objects) on the ATI FirePro and Nvidia GeForce graphics boards have returned exceptional software gains. In benchmark testing, results have shown the frame-per-second (FPS) rate jump from 5.5 > 146.2 for a 70MB dataset and 9.9 > 238.1 for a 118MB dataset. CAD enhancements include model thickness analysis which allows the user to quickly identify the thickest and thinnest areas of the model and help validate the model integrity, highlighting any potential areas that may cause internal voids, surface sink marks, unpredictable shrink rates and ultimately, longer cycle times.

Compass Technology – Improved Feature Recognition for solid & surface geometry

Further developments include intelligent body/face mating, improved annotation, updated printing and numerous improvements to the management of drawing files. One of the more significant is the ability to import pages from other work files and re-build the link between the solid geometry. This allows multiple users to share the same 3D design with each designer creating their own drawing pages – adding views, sections, annotations, balloons etc on separate workstations. When the pages have been completed, they can be loaded back into the master file and all links to the original 3D data are reconnected.

CAM developments include enhancements to geometry feature recognition with the ability to recognise complex and simple holes on both solid & surface models. The feature recognition has also been extended to recognise features from a predefined direction and find features within a localised user-defined region.

Increase productivity
The separation of passes & linking will dramatically increase productivity and reduce calculation time. The user will now be able to inspect the toolpath quality before building the HSM linking movements. Continued development on the CAM engine have produced time saving results of over 80% reduction in calculation time for combined waterline, 30% reduction for rest machining and over 15% reduction for raster clearance. Incremental stock, automatic toolpath tilting and further improvements to multi axis machining guarantees another step forward for Vero’s innovative CAM solution.

Where complexity is made simple

“While 5-axis simultaneous milling is still new in the arena of Swiss-type lathes, multi-axis lathes with 5-axis simultaneous milling capability are becoming more commonplace in small parts manufacturing. PartMaker Version 2010 positions PartMaker users to take advantage of the growing complexity of milling on multi-tasking machines.  PartMaker Version 2010 represents a quantum leap forward for users and potential users of PartMaker technology,” comments Fishman.

5-axis simultaneous milling for multi-axis lathes
PartMaker Version 2010 features an optional module to perform simultaneous 5-axis swarf milling on multi-axis lathes.  Swarf machining is a technique that allows side cutting with an endmill while proceeding along the surface of a part, such as the sidewalls of a tapered rib.  Swarf machining can be used for profiling the edge of components using the side of the tool to remove material.  The benefits of 5-axis simultaneous swarf machining over traditional 3-axis milling strategies include significantly reduced machining time and improved surface finish. Employing swarfing can allow parts to be machined complete in a single set-up by allowing for more advanced de-burring techniques thus eliminating time consuming and laborious additional finishing.

The new swarfing functionality in PartMaker lets users take advantage of B-axis lathes with 5-axis simultaneous machining functionality.  PartMaker’s 5-axis swarf milling is powerful, yet easy to use, allowing the user to apply this complex machining technique in an intuitive manner.

PartMaker and PowerMILL Integration
For all complex 5-axis machining strategies currently supported by PowerMILL, including blade and blisk machining, as well as for highly sophisticated 3-axis strategies, PartMaker Version 2010 will feature the option for a direct interface to PowerMILL.  PowerMILL tool paths can be imported directly into PartMaker Version 2010, manipulated and synchronized on PartMaker’s Process Table, simulated and post processed directly from the PartMaker working environment.  This integrated solution of two market leading technologies assures users they will never be limited in their ability to program and optimize parts in the most efficient and powerful way possible.

More Powerful Milling Strategies
PartMaker Version 2010 features a number of more advanced 2 ½ axis milling routines not available in previous PartMaker versions including a variety of High Speed Machining Strategies, Trochoidal Milling, Rest Area Machining, Face Milling and a more powerful Pocketing strategy among others.  These additional milling strategies are also based on PowerMILL technology and have been adapted to work inside of PartMaker in an efficient and easy-to-use manner.

Improved Thread Whirling Programming and Simulation
PartMaker Version 2010 includes an improved facility for automating the programming and simulation of thread whirling, a programming technique often used in the programming of “bone screw” threads as well as other specialty threads commonly found on threaded surgical implants.  The popularity of thread whirling attachments on Swiss-type lathes have grown substantially in recent years because of the dual benefit this technique offers manufacturers making threaded parts.  Specifically, thread whirling allows threaded products to be produced faster because this technique only requires a single pass, where as traditional multi-pass threading routines require multiple passes to achieve the same result.  Additionally, with the rigidity afforded by a sliding-headstock Swiss-lathe, thread whirling can also provide higher and more repeatable precision.
PartMaker Version 2010 includes specially developed algorithms and user interface to automate the programming of this unique manufacturing technique.  Additionally, PartMaker’s 3D simulation fully simulates machining with a thread whirling attachment as these attachments can generally be quite large inside the working envelope of a machine and thus provide additional risk of collision during machining.

Additional Productivity Enhancements

PartMaker Version 2010 includes a number of user requested productivity enhancements.  Among these improvements are: enhanced grooving functionality, powerful and flexible threading capability, improved solids-based programming and additional CAD functionality.  Additionally, 2D tool path selection has been improved from previous versions. The new automated tool path selection techniques in PartMaker Version 2010 will provide users a significant productivity improvement by measurably speeding up programming time.  Space ball support has also been added in PartMaker Version 2010.  Additionally, a number improvements to the software’s Tool Database have been made in Version 2010.

Fully automated CAM programming solution for manufacturing high-quality dental bridges

Open Mind Technologies AG recently presented hyperDENT®, a fully automated programming system for manufacturing high-quality dental bridges. Even novice CAM users can use this system to create quick and reliable NC programs in ten structured steps. Experienced CAM users can customise their machining strategies.

Optimized processes
The open CAM system allows users to design optimized processes in combination with 3D scanners, CAD applications and milling machines from a wide range of vendors. The hyperDENT® open CAM system is very much geared towards orthodontic processes in dental laboratories and offers a multitude of efficient machining strategies that can be very easily integrated into existing processes. It is possible to combine a scanner, CAD/CAM system and milling machine from different vendors. Stock from different providers can also be used.

CAM programming system for multi-purpose application areas
The application area of the dental solution is wide-ranging; it enables the digital and precise manufacturing of high-quality crowns, multi-part bridges, abutments, caps or implant bridges. The usage for stock is not bound to the limited parameters of one manufacturer. All materials that are used in dental engineering are supported, such as zirconium oxide, titanium, base metal alloys or precious metals. Partially machined stocks can also be reused for manufacturing.

As a result, even inexperienced CAM users can intuitively create entire programs for high-quality milling tasks; the use of familiar terms ensures fast learning.
To ensure an operation that saves both time and money, the highly automated CAM system guides the user with the Workflow Manager in just ten steps to a complete NC program.

Expert functions for individually defined milling strategies
The user can intervene at any time in the programming process. All programming steps can be repeated or changed at a later time in order to obtain the best possible results. For this purpose, the software provides users with an UNDO/REDO function. Advanced users with extensive CAM and milling expertise benefit particularly from the advanced functions that hyperDENT® provides. In this way, the individual machining steps or milling strategies can be selected freely by the user – a huge advantage of the open CAM programming system compared to vendor-specific solutions.
After completion, the integrated machining simulation enables a very detailed examination of the generated programs before they are released for subsequent execution on the milling machine. Alphacam 8 – A new powerful tool

Today was a special day for about 30 Swiss customers of MW Programmation, the exclusive reseller of Alphacam in Switzerland and Austria. Why? Simply because as more than 200 persons before, we (yes I had the luck to be there) had a full day of discovering of the new version.

Active since the stone-age of CNC (1986) this company is not only selling Alphacam but offers complete solutions like DNC, training, programming for customers, development of special modules and much more. This year they decided to promote the new version organizing “discovering days” and it’s a great success as, all in all, about 250 specialists came there to learn about version 8 and DNC software from MW.

This new completely integrated CAD/CAM software solution includes advanced new features. It is designed to offer businesses enhanced productivity, exceptional reliability and additional flexibility. PartMaker Receives Latest Autodesk Certification

Newest PartMaker release certified for use with Autodesk Inventor 2010.

PartMaker Inc., a subsidiary of Delcam Plc, has announced that PartMaker Version 9, the latest version of its PartMaker® CAD/CAM software for CNC Mills, Lathes, WireEDM, Turn-Mill Centers and Swiss-type lathes, has been certified for use with Autodesk’s Inventor 2010 solid modeling design system by the Autodesk Inventor Certified Applications Program.
To attain this certification, the PartMaker suite of products met certain criteria and demonstrated a high level interoperability with Autodesk Inventor 2010. The certification is granted by Autodesk only after the product has been approved after a rigorous testing process.
