Ideal for multispindle machines

October 2010

Spindles are one of the essential parts of a machine tool. It is impossible to reach a satisfactory level of precision and surface finish if this element is not correctly dimensioned, produced and assembled. Despite a significant increase in the number of motorised spindles available on the market, there are still, essentially for reasons of cost and transferable power, a lot of belt-driven spindles in use.

This type of spindle allows the motor to be deviated via a belt or other coupling elements. It is then possible to use a more powerful motor or to adjust the transmission ratio to increase torque to the tool or inversely to increase spindle rotation speed. In addition, several spindles can be driven by a single actuator, resulting in a cost saving, which can be substantial. These characteristics make this type of product an ideal candidate for multispindle machines.

For every application Like motorised spindles, they can be supplied with various tool-holding systems such as manual or automatic HSK, ER, EX or W collets, with interfaces adapted for the customer. In certain special versions, centre liquid cooling can also be integrated. These spindles require overpressure in order to protect the spindle nose from the infiltration of cutting fluid or the penetration of chips into the spindle.

Meyrat SA has its own development department which can customise certain products or develop complete concepts on customer request. In this case the product is developed to best match the type of tool and the requirements in terms of the speed and load of the machining task in question.
