Switzerland on top of innovation ranking

January 2010

Next issue is being prepared and for the "point of view" article I’ve just met Philippe Fischer, head of the FSRM (Swiss Foundation for Research in the field of Microtechniques). In the interview we discussed about historical reasons to be good in microtechniques and innovation (amongst other things).

Innovation, engine of success Obviously innovation is not the only reason to win on the market and the link between research and industry has to be helped (the main aim of the FSRM in fact). We spoke about innovation and Switzerland can be proud of its capacities. Two 2009 studies rank the country in top places.

How microtechniques skills help nanotech

In fact a silicon "chip" alone is not of great value, but once linked to actual products with a good know-know in microtechniques, it suddenly generates value. The Swiss area between the Jura mountains and the Alps, cradle of watch industry, is specialized in that field and faces a huge potential.
