Control

Optics to the service of production

May 2011

For years we can find optical measuring tools in the heart of production workshops and development of self-controlling operators still fosters this trend. Measuring and control devices must be designed for this purpose. Marcel Aubert SA, specialist in optics, is recognized for its solutions dedicated to workshops. But its technical and optical expertise goes much farther since a significant part of its activities is to provide optical systems to be embedded in production or assembly machines. Let’s see these different activities with MM Fleury, technical manager and Terzini, head of marketing and commercial.

The new motorized system and housing which integrates all controls greatly simplify the life of operators and directly affect the quality of measurements.

.

To confine the activities of the company to the measuring devices is indeed too simplistic, even though both covered areas share common points; both are based on the optical know-how of the company and in both cases solutions are dedicated to the workshops. Mr. Fleury says: "We are recognized in the market with optical measurement devices, but many applications simply use our optical systems. They have been developed for use in the workshops and works perfectly once integrated in production or mounting systems". That activity of Marcel Aubert SA is not very well known and yet it is just as important as the other. Why? Mr Terzini says: "On an exhibition, it is always easier to present concrete solutions in the form of modular products, present and demonstrable on the booth than customers applications in principle immovable and often confidential".

(2) OEM optical systems for machines manufacturers

(3) Advices and personalized service

Relevant advice… It is customary to say that a measuring apparatus must offer a precision ten times higher than the tolerances to measure. It is an important parameter that determines optical and mechanical qualities of control instruments to use, but it is not all to ensure quality. Often measures in the workshops are not as strict as in a Department of metrology, not by the fact of incompetence or less powerful hardware, but because of the multiplicity of operators. For this reason, Marcel Aubert SA offers comprehensive training in workshops where its systems are installed, so all operators work with the same references and the same methods. Mr. Fleury says: "Improving or streamlining measures in workshops directly affect the quality of production". He adds: " 80% of the time spent in training concerns the improvement of global control methods and 20% concerns the use of our machines ". The purpose of these advices is to ensure repeatability of measurements and thus the customer’s performance. It’s sometimes important questions at the level of processes and production flows that have to be sorted out. But all companies having undertaken this approach have gained efficiency.

…at any moment of the product life To advise the best system, embedded or independent is only the beginning of the service offered by Marcel Aubert SA. Offering a very responsive after-sales service whose effectiveness is praised by customers, the company also offers a maintenance contracts system that allows users to benefit from a periodic control system of the device, its potential calibration and of course the creation of a complete control protocol. It is that way that Marcel Aubert SA measuring systems are always at the cutting edge of precision and quality, even after years of use.
