September 2013

By definition tailor-made machines finely meet the needs of their buyers, but often they involve expensive developments and sometimes create labyrinthine solutions. In the field of very precise transfer machines, the Imoberdorf company stands off and offers tailor-made solutions based on proven modules. Result? Machines totally tested, debugged and trustworthy, however custom-made.

imo-compact is the latest ranges of the company; it is particularly well suited to the watchmaking field.

Based in Oensingen, the company produces machines by project for the realization of precision components in medium and large series. Mr. Gilgen, sales/after-sales specialist explains: "We work in close collaboration with our customers regarding the process in order to implement the most appropriate solutions". He adds: “Several engineers are at disposal of our customers to adapt our machines to their needs. As we work almost exclusively with standard parts, they are not only totally reliable but also available quickly, particularly in regards to spare parts”.

The sale of know-how The company does not propose machines only, but know-how. Mr. Gilgen says: “In general the customer explains his machining cycle and we propose a cycle of operations that combines these information with our know-how gathered in the development of hundreds of installed machines”. When all people involved reach a common solution, machines are custom-made but always on the basis of 85 to 90% of standard parts.

Is a transfer machine still a reasonable investment? To this question, the specialist says: "It is no longer as in the past; nowadays a transfer machine is very flexible, not only it is adaptable according to the parts to realize, but in addition the series changes are very quick. According to the parts, the change from one kind of part to the next one may take from 15 minutes to 2 hours”. This is not different from other means of production, but with very important productivity gains of the transfer machines, the benefits for customers are immediate. M. Gilgen concludes on this subject: "One of our customer making families of parts works with a machine well equipped with tools... and he can produce more than 500 different parts with the same tooling".
