LNS presents groundbreaking innovations @EMO Milan

August 2009

The Swiss LNS Group, expert in machine tool peripherals, introduces a new bar feeder on the market: Sprint 542. Besides that, the EMO in Milan will witness an innovative Human Machine Interface, the chip conveyor Turbo MH500 and other novelties. New bar feeder The new bar feeder Sprint 542 is "the most versatile bar feeder on the market", says Carlos Muniz, LNS Global Product Manager Bar Feed. The Sprint 542 can be adjusted exactly to the customers needs: "The configuration is completely flexible: Working with cone or collet, with manual or automatic bar diameter adjustment, with or without Z-axis retraction – the customer decides and everything is possible”, explains Muniz. This innovative bar feeder can process bars in a diameter range from five to 42mm. It can handle round and profiled material and the whole range of standard lengths, from 2m to 4m bars. Muniz: "Beyond that, the Sprint 542 convinces with perfect guiding due to the long guiding elements.”

Automation and communication To make the bar feeder – and the lathe – even more productive, LNS developed a new Human Machine Interface (HMI). Touch screens facilitate the troubleshooting process for operators and assist them in supervising the machine. In addition to that, the innovative E-connect enables fast and smooth Ethernet communication between the lathe and the bar feeder. "It is now possible to run the bar feeder from the lathe or even from a remote operation office. E-connect eliminates the downtime of the machine, minimize mistakes and make the whole system more efficient”, states Muniz. A web browser and internet connection is all an operator needs to connect to the lathe. Muniz: "The latest generations of CNC lathes are designed for high rotational speeds, fast movements and easy programming. The times where the bar feeder and the lathe were considered alone are over – it is one system in which everything intertwines. This is why communication becomes more and more important.”

The touch screen makes the operation of the Sprint 542 bar feeder easy.

You’ve the lead LNS will not only present product innovations at the machine tool world exhibition EMO in Milan, but also set up a connection to its headquarters in Switzerland. "Visitors will be able to operate a bar feeder via touch screen – at a distance of 350km”, explains Carlos Muniz.

New patented conveyor The Swiss company also offers chip disposal and coolant management systems (CCM) and other peripherals. The most important innovation in the CCM sector is the new Turbo MH500 chip conveyor. "Today machine-tools are capable of many types of machining processes and produce a wide range of chip types and shapes. The self-cleaning, patent pending, filtering chip conveyor Turbo MH500 is a perfect solution because it can operate the whole spectrum.

New High Pressure coolant system At EMO, the experts of LNS will also introduce the PowerStream SA, a new high pressure coolant system, which has been designed with the European needs and mind. "The aim with the new HPC system is to provide flexibility and increase productivity for our customers”, says Towers.

New entry level bar feeder "The Alpha ST 320 line is the first LNS bar feeder on the entry level range. We developed it especially for companies that run the same product all day long or do not change the settings too often”, says Muniz. “It is easy to operate and reaches the high LNS standards at a reasonable price.

In the coming two years, LNS plans to introduce two to four other entry level bar feeders. With the Alpha ST 320 line, LNS expects to reach a market share of 30 percent in this segment within three years. Overall, the company plans to expand considerably and double its size within five years. LNS at EMO: Hall 7, booth G18/H15
