Active for more than 30 years in polymer micro-precision, Biwi SA is a Jura company renowned in the fields of watchmaking, medical and microtechnology. Its expertise includes molding, casting and technical polymer injection technology.
Met in Orthotec, the representatives of the company presented us their new family of Isochron high performance joints. The joint is a strategic component for many watchmaking or technical products; it can be simple in appearance, but requires exceptional properties. According to the various fields of application, it must withstand chemical attack, must last in time and must have outstanding mechanical properties. In addition the new Isochron joint is built with narrowed tolerances of 0 / + 0.04 mm on the section.
New formula and… For the realization of this high performance product, a new innovative formula has been implemented. It has features such as very low remnant deformation under compressive forces, minimized friction coefficients for dynamic seals application and reduced Mullins effect (optimized stress-strain curve based on the maximum loading previously encountered).
..Special thermo mechanical treatment Thanks to Biwi’s know how, in addition to a specific formula, a new thermo-mechanical treatment is applied during the compounding process. This innovation create an interphase between the nano filler and the polymer. Called core shell, this new technology allows to reach an appropriate level of strengthening while minimizing drift, inter-charges interactions and reduction of performance. Space between strengthening particles is also optimized to minimize Mullins effects.
For all types of joints This new technology that combines the use of two types of loads; black carbon base and hydrophilic support such as silica with appropriate coupling agent, can be applied to static or dynamic joints from simple to complex shapes. As with other polymers used by Biwi, material is REACH standard compliant.
