The main activity of Meyrat SA is in the field of spindles for machine tools. The company offers a complete range of motorised milling spindles with a flanging diameter of 50mm (MMO-50). These spindles use the HSK cutting-tool clamping system and can reach very high levels of precision in terms of radial deviation measured on the tool tip. This technology also means the tool length can be measured outside the machine, thus providing gains in productivity as machine idle time is greatly reduced.
The spindles are available in a HSK-C25 manual version or HSK-E25 automatic version and offer the option of using centre cooling. With a maximum rotation speed of 28 000 or 40 000 rpm, they can also carry out both roughing milling operations and engraving with tools with a diameter of only a few tenths of a millimetre. To make sure the spindles adapt perfectly to the various machine mounting options, several types of labyrinth seal were developed to ensure the spindle remains watertight whatever its working position, which means it is possible to use the spindle in a horizontal position or in a vertical position with the spindle nose facing up or down.
One of the characteristics which is essential for the good spindle operation is balancing. If the spindle has excellent balancing properties, not only is its lifespan is increased, the lifespan of the tools is also increased and the spindle provides improved surface quality for the machined part. This is why this delicate operation is carried out at the end of the assembly process and provides a balancing quality comparable to that recommended for regrinding and which will please the most demanding customers.
