Biemh 2014 - A must for manufacturing

June 2014

More innovation, more companies and more products. With a total of 1314 exhibiting companies from 27 countries (12% more than at the last event), leading international brands, new sectors, almost 800 high-performance machines, 300 innovations and technical seminars, the 28th International Machine-Tool Exhibition is set to be a big event, with big solutions, for doing big business.

“The GDP, investment, consumption, foreign trade and export indicators are all positive, and at the BIEMH we will see that this growth is also reflected in the creation of jobs. The Machine-Tool Biennial is a landmark event for our country”. These words were spoken by Basque Premier Iñigo Urkullu in the address with which he officially opened the 28th BIEMH today.

Encouraged by signs of recovery in the domestic market, machine-tool companies will be making a strong show at Bilbao Exhibition Centre from June 2-7 (yeah, it’s time to go there till the end of the week!). This year’s BIEMH is bigger in all areas than the previous edition, and is set to mark a turning point in its sector.

A must for manufacturing The 28th BIEMH is to take place in Halls 1, 2, 3 and 5 at Bilbao Exhibition Centre, where a full range of machine-tool-related products and services will be on show. 57% of the exhibitors at BIEMH 2014 are from outside Spain. The chance to access wide-ranging international markets and to make the most of the turning point in domestic demand in Spain from a soundly consolidated trade-show is one of the reasons why firms from 27 countries have confirmed their attendance at the event.

Quality, competitiveness and technological innovation BIEMH has grown into the most comprehensive showcase for reaching out to leading domestic firms and meeting high-level personnel. The Spanish machine-tool industry has developed state-of-the-art automation for manufacturing systems that has placed the country’s firms at the cutting edge of their sector, where they compete with the most advanced countries for customers in leading markets including Germany, Italy and France, among others. Spain is the third biggest producer and exporter of machine-tools in the EU, and the ninth biggest in the world. It achieved this position thanks to a firm commitment on the part of manufacturers of machine tools, accessories, components and tools to innovation (for which they earmark 5% of their turnover) and to internationalisation. The specialised, technologically innovative, high value added products that they manufacture enable the sector as a whole to export of over 80% of its output.

New sectors and technical seminars For the first time, BIEMH has a specific area given over to additive manufacturing and composites, at which companies and technology centres will show off their most competitive, most highly developed products and share their experiences. Additive manufacturing is set to be the cornerstone of digital-age manufacturing in developed countries. It consists of making components from various materials based on a 3-D model, depositing material in powder form layer by layer, with no need to machine or manufacture moulds or toolings. The biomedical, aeronautical, automotive, mould-making and die-making industries are making ever greater use of it due to its functionality and high added value.

Time to go to Spain From June 2 to 7, 2014 Monday to Friday 9.30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday 9.30 a.m. to 3 p.m
