Trade show

For intelligent production of the future

May 2018

LASYS, the international trade fair for laser material processing, takes place for the sixth time at the Stuttgart trade fair centre from 5 to 7 June 2018. Around 200 exhibitors from over 20 countries present their laser production systems, laser-specific machine subsystems, beam sources, as well as processes and services. Once again LASYS reflects its importance as a leading international trade fair for the use of lasers in industrial production.

"Also this year LASYS is the ideal platform covering different industries and materials for special and new fields of applications, as well as industry trends and innovations for the intelligent production of the future", states Gunnar Mey, Department Director of Industrial Solutions at Messe Stuttgart. "We are delighted that more and more companies from abroad are using the trade fair to present their products and we are curious about the numerous innovations that can be admired in Hall 4."

Diversified programme for laser users
In the accompanying programme the visitors, from newcomers to specialists, find suitable opportunities for knowledge transfer. These include the Stuttgart Laser Technology Forum , which takes place this year for the tenth time already, and the Stuttgart Laser Marketplace, both firmly established elements of the accompanying programme. It is very hands-on in the "Lasers in Action" forum , in the SPECTARIS workshop "Laser material processing in medical technology" and in the technology seminar "Laser-based deposition welding – Status quo and outlook" of the Bavarian Laser Center (blz). In addition, the visitors of LASYS have the opportunity to obtain information about two EU projects. One project is LASHARE , a European project in which more than 30 small and medium-sized companies from all over Europe, partners from industry and six of the renowned laser research institutes are involved. Within the framework of a workshop it is primarily about the use of data from lasers and manufacturing processes and the standardisation for the next generation of laser-based production systems. A workshop also takes place on the topic of laser microprocessing. The current results of the European research project HIPERDIAS (High throughPut LasER processing of DIAmond and Silicon) are presented in this workshop.

LASYS 2018 awaits with product premières
The visitors can look forward to some products that are being showcased for the first time at the trade fair. For instance, at Stand 4B32 FOBA Laser Marking + Engraving (Alltec GmbH) presents a software update that now also makes possible the camera-based alignment of the marking for parts positioned anywhere. At a marking workstation it is demonstrated that holding fixtures become superfluous. At Stand 4D31 MKS Instruments presents for the first time in Europe a new, portable measuring device for the precise measurement of laser power and energy. It is characterised by a large touchscreen in full colour for the clear display of all measurement results and offers a wide range of graphic displays. TRUMPF (Stand 4C51) even has a global première – the fibre-based solid-state laser TruFiber 2000.

Growing international importance
The exhibiting companies come from 21 countries. They include new exhibitors such as Optoprim and Univet from Italy, RME from Poland, Penteq from Austria, as well as 4ISP from the Czech Republic, Domel from Slovenia and Foshan Beyond Laser Technology and Guangzhou CK Laser from China.

Young talent initiative of the VDMA
In order to specifically attract the young talent in the industry to LASYS and get them enthusiastic about laser and light technologies, the German Engineering Federation (VDMA) together with the VDI Technology Centre presents DIY exhibits on the topics of optics and photonics at its stand. The VDMA is once again making technology and science a tangible experience for students. The projects are supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) within the framework of the initiatives Make Light and Open Photonics.
