Again several Kuka robot received the world-renowned "red dot" award this year. Three products of the Bavarian industrial robot provider were among the winners: the KR 5 arc, HW and KR 700 PA have been awarded by the red dot. The KR 5 arc was even awarded as the best of the best red dot and honored for outstanding design achievements.
During a solemn Gala on July 5, 2010 in the Essen Aalto Theatre the industrial designer Mario Selic and a Kuka developer team received the prestigious award for the KR 5 arc robot. "Thanks to its reduced and well-defined design it is powerful and athletic" said the international jury about the KR 5 arc. Used especially for shielded arc welding. "Its flowing movements captivate the viewer." Internationally established design award Since 1955, the design centre Nordrhein Westfalen emphasizes international outstanding product design with its famous red dot awards. The awards is given by a professional jury to products that have a significant design quality. Criteria are:

- Functionality
- Ergonomics
- Ecological compatibility.
Interaction between design and engineering The new award received by Kuka is the result of a close link between design know-how and engineering. In developing new Kuka products the industrial designer Mario Selic was involved at a very early stage. The result is that the robots not only look good, but also is very good in its mechanical inside. The design brings high stability and rigidity, what is mandatory for Kuka customers . Functionality and beauty are reunited by the technology leader from Augsburg.
