Low-cost retrofit solution for internal cooling of driven tools

October 2013

At the EMO, high-precision toolholding system manufacturer Rego-Fix presented a simple, yet efficient solution for retrofitting driven tools with an internal cooling system.

Using reCool®, all driven tools (with male thread to DIN 6499 / ISO 15488) can be retrofitted in a few simple steps to benefit from the advantages of internal or peripheral cooling. This optimized coolant feed system which transports the coolant at a pressure of up to 20 bar ensures efficient chip removal and significantly extends the service life of tools.

The reCool® Set retrofit internal cooling system for driven tools not only helps drive lowers tooling costs but also reduces initial investment outlay. It is well known that internal or peripheral cooling (along the shank) helps to extend tool service life far more effectively than spray pipes or nozzles, which are not particularly efficient at transporting the coolant to the cutting edge.

Adaptable everywhere In an effort to drive down initial outlay for machining centres which use a large number of driven tools, these are frequently not equipped with an internal cooling system guided through the spindle. The new reCool® concept allows all driven tools (DIN 6499/ISO 15488) to be retrofitted in a few simple steps. reCool® RCR/ER 16 to RCR/ER 40 can be used with Rego-Fix® collets, sealing and coolant flush disks, milling cutters and drills with diameters from 2.5 to 30.0 mm.

Through-hole or peripheral cooling Its simple structure and special plain bearings make reCool® an affordable and low-maintenance solution for extending the tool life of milling cutters and drills. Internal cooling is most commonly used for drilling, where coolant is supplied directly at the tool cutting edge. This ensures the efficient removal of chips and significantly increases tool service life. For milling operations, peripheral cooling is predominantly used in conjunction with the Rego-Fix® coolant flush disk. In this case, the coolant is guided along the tool shaft towards the cutting edge.

Left: Internal cooling: Coolant is fed using the REGO-FIX® coolant flush disk. The coolant is transported through the tool’s coolant channel. Right: Peripheral cooling: Coolant is fed using the REGO-FIX® coolant flush disk. The coolant is transported along the tool shank to the cutting edge.
Left: prior to retrofitting: Inefficient transportation of the coolant to the cutting edge. Right: after retrofitting: Optimum guidance of the coolant to the tool cutting edge with reCool® coolant flush disk.
The new reCool® concept allows all driven tools (with male thread to DIN 6499/ISO 15488) to be retrofitted in a few simple steps so that they can benefit from the advantages of internal or peripheral cooling.
