The age of nanotechnology

April 2011

Nanotechnology is now an indispensible part of industry, medical science and everyday life. For instance, nanoparticles are a key part of hyperthermia cancer therapy; nanoporous filters are used for basic drinking water treatment; and ceramic nanocoatings are a non-toxic alternative to chrome or nickel-based compounds in corrosion protection. Even wind turbines benefit from nanotechnology.

Here, new materials such as carbon nanotube reinforced polymers and nanograin metals meet the demand for ever-larger generation units by allowing giant wind turbines to be made even taller and lighter. In her ministry’s “Nanotechnology Action Plan 2015,” German Federal Minister of Education and Research Annette Schavan has highlighted the vast problem-solving potential of nanotechnology when it comes to meeting the technological challenges of our time. Key areas of application include the health sector, environmental and climate protection, the energy industry, environmentally friendly and energy-efficient mobility solutions and sustainable agriculture.

Nanotechnology will feature prominently at the MicroNanoTec, Research & Technology and SurfaceTechnology flagship fairs at this year’s HANNOVER MESSE.

Eurotec is there on the Swiss booth in Hall 4. If you go to Hanover, don´t miss to come and see us there. We’ve already met a lot of interesting people and are eager to meet more.

Cheers and see you in Hanover soon. Py
