Tooling

To work where it’s nearly impossible

October 2013

In all areas, users of machines-tools, whether turning or milling, seek solutions to machine more effectively, to place tools in reduced spaces, or also to increase the number of tools available in fixed kinematics. The answers to all of these needs are precisely the forces of Pibomulti/Emissa (Switzerland). Meeting with Mr. Pierre Boschi, director and owner of the company, for whom nothing (or almost) is impossible.

The new patented Pibomulti system is ideal for machining in places hard to reach.

On the occasion of Midest Paris, on the ’special machines’ village, the manufacturer will present many innovations. Mr. Boschi says: “Midest is an important trade show for us. Numerous subcontracting players of the areas we cover, namely automotive, aeronautics, hydraulics or electronics are present and we can give them specific examples of improvements of productivity and/or machining conditions". We will see a few of those innovations in the following days.

Angular machining in a small footprint In the field of aeronautics for instance, many parts require angular holes near the walls where it is almost impossible to bring a tool. The new angular tool-holder allows holding a diameter 6 mm drill with a distance of 3.5 mm between the outside of the tool holder and the center of the tool. Despite a wall thickness of 0.5 mm, the tool is driven up to 12’000 t/min. and guarantees a couple of 0.8 Nm. Mr. Boschi says: "We had to find technical tips to ensure rigidity. There is no ball-bearing and no guide-bush, the tool is held directly into the tool holder". This attachment system does not require pre-heating or complicated device and it is suitable for all types of tool holders. It guarantees the set-up of rotating tools repeatedly within 2 µm.

Out of standard potentials improvements In all areas, from microtechnology to boat motors, Pibomulti/Emissa original solutions bring more to users. Mr. Boschi gives us an example: “At the EMO we were approached by a well-known brand of phones which realises micro-machining operations on small forged parts. The current cycle time is 20 seconds, using our developments made for the watchmaking industry, we are able to produce the same parts in 3 seconds".

To be discovered at Midest Paris from November 19 to 22, 2013 on booth 6F92.

The new patented tool-holding system brings large machining capacities in a small footprint. Typical customers are from aerospace, automotive and hydraulic industries.
