Desktop Factory: world premiere at Micronora

July 2014

The Micronora zoom will host as world premiere a complete and operational production chain, composed exclusively of micro machines developed by the Japanese consortium DTF. The DTF concept allows to design autonomous and easily reconfigurable production chains that can be installed on a large table. (Vous pouvez télécharger cet article en français ici.)

For the first time on a trade show, visitors will be able to discover a complete production chain of micro machines.

Machines are designed on the principle of the "plug and play". The feed of material is provided by two axes mini-robots. If some of the machines have already been presented individually in various trade shows, it is the first time a whole production chain can be seen in operation.

Small sizes production chains The Desktop Factory (DTF), consortium based in Suwa, in the Nagano, Japan prefecture has developed since the beginning of the 2000’s a set of research projects aimed at developing production chains of small size. The DTF allows production close to consumption places; also at the heart of the cities. Small footprint, low power consumption, low ecological balance and flexibility made the DTF an approach of the factory of the future before anyone else. These machines are today sold in Japan and are presented for the first time in a logic of production chain in the Micronora Zoom.

The DTF consortium New methods of manufacturing are developed on the basis of the expertise of companies and member organisations. It is mainly SMEs in the world of complex machining. The Suwa area, which has experienced a very brilliant watch period with companies such as Seiko, is now recognized as the world centre of design of DTF technologies. It is a real pole of competitiveness, better known in Japan under the term of Monozukuri.

The collaboration of SMEs, each having its specialty (machining, drilling, milling, cutting, surface treatment, robotics, etc.) is an "efficient hub" for ideas and helps the coordinated development of new production systems based on the concept of DTF. . www.dtf.ne.jp/en/ www.micronora.com
