Robust fixed pipe connections made of metal

The innovative piping system Eisele Alu Pro 30 with screw connections for metal pipes is the first product line of the new Pipingline. The modular system for fixed pipe connections of the compressed air supply for assembly lines sets new standards in every respect for the distribution of compressed air, gases and fluids.

Fixed pipe connections set new standards
This high-quality system withstands every load and fulfils the most stringent requirements for piping technology. The robust high-quality aluminium construction is as functional as it is attractive. No machining of the pipe ends is necessary during installation. It can also be used to easily retrofit existing systems or add additional distributors.

Safe, reliable and flexible
Alu Pro 30 is also convincing with respect to flexibility. The modular system is very easy to install, saving material, time and resources during plant construction. The patented fixed pipe connection saves costs of up to 50 percent compared with a conventional compressed air supply with aluminium profiles. Firstly, profiles are more expensive than the less massive pipes and secondly, Alu Pro 30 ensures significantly higher efficiency of the compressed air supply, while operating safely, reliably and controllably at pressures from -0.95 to 16 bar. Therefore, Alu Pro 30 is also vacuum suitable.

Modular kit for custom systems
All components are designed for optimum flow and are manufactured from anodised aluminium. The modular kit includes distributors with two to six outlets, pipe supports, double threaded connections, straight male threaded fittings, as well as angle, corner and tee connectors. All connections are designed for aluminium pipes with a 30 mm outer diameter. High flexibility and individual solutions are standard at Eisele. On request, custom sizes, types and special accessories are therefore possible. So far Eisele has added around 2,000 custom solutions to its standard product spectrum.

From Taiwan to Europe…

The Katadyn Products Inc. company whose headquarters is located in Kemptthal near Zurich specialises in the supply of water filters, desalinators, systems dedicated to outdoor activities (gas burners), and other products devoted to trekking. In order to simplify and accelerate its supply chain and its logistics, the company that delivers all over the world from Switzerland undertook a process of repatriation of certain activities from Taiwan to Eastern Europe. At the same time, it has built new, much larger premises in the Zurich suburb. Meeting with Mr. Adrian Schmassmann CEO and Mr. Thomas Dalla Vecchia, who helped the company make this transition to Eastern Europe. (Full story to be discovered in one of our next issue indeed).

“Working with Asia requires more significant constraints than with Europe, particularly in terms of deadlines, flexibility, shipping, culture or communication” says Mr. Schmassmann in the preamble. The company needing more and more small series of different parts, it decided in 2011 to achieve production and assembly of some of its products in Europe.

Growth in Eastern Europe …and in Switzerland
And if the company now has a branch in Romania with which it carries out numerous products and sub-assemblies, the headquarters in Switzerland is also experiencing a strong growth of its activities and its staff.

Knowledge of the market
Initially, Katadyn wishes to subcontract to Eastern Europe and has some notions on the particularities of the countries and their production capacities. Romania is clearly part of its short list of interesting countries, but how to enter a completely unknown country? The Director tells us: “We had a contact with Obal and we quickly agreed on our needs: to find a competent partner with which we could develop a sustainable relationship, whatever we speak of partnership or acquisition. We were able to take full advantage of the knowledge of the Eastern European markets of Obal in general and of Mr. Della Vecchia in particular”.

CNC advances to be demonstrated at BIMU and IMTS 2014

Exciting new developments in machine tool CNC hardware and software technology will be demonstrated by NUM at IMTS. Highlights will include a highly cost-effective dual channel CNC kernel for designers of small to medium size machines with up to five axes, a functional safety architecture that can easily be scaled to suit any type of machine, and new grinding software for complex geometry tools.

Forming the latest addition to NUM’s market-leading Flexium+ CNC platform, the dual channel Flexium+ 8 CNC kernel provides an exceptionally high level of control flexibility. At any time, either CNC channel can be used to control a spindle motor and four simultaneously interpolated axes – and control can be passed on-the-fly from one channel to the other. This simplifies the design of complex machines with multiple synchronisation requirements, such as thread or gear cutters, and in many cases eliminates the need for a second CNC kernel. NUM will also be providing software demonstrations of complete conversational and cycle solutions developed specifically for the North American market. Based on Flexium+ systems, these include solutions for gear hobbing, shaping and grinding, OD/ID grinding and metal spinning.

Functional safety
The functional safety architecture, known as Numsafe, is compatible with all NUM Flexium+ CNC systems. It provides machine builders with a highly flexible means of implementing functional safety functions and can be scaled to suit almost any type of machine tool, regardless of complexity or the number of axes. Key benefits include minimal additional hardware and wiring.

Tool grinding software
For the first time in the USA, NUM will be showing the new version of its market-leading Numroto tool grinding software, which now includes functions for complex geometry tools such as multi-helical end mills with variable width flute areas.

Since cookware has developed from a simple cooking device to a more design, technology and function orientated consumer item, completely different demands are placed on it. These in turn can only be met by a comparably high material, production and quality assurance effort. Nowadays’ challenges
However, the market for cookware is also marked by a globally large competition, which is why manufacturers must pull out all the stops to ensure competitiveness in the long term. Individual process solutions from the construction kit
With the 2-column press of type MBG 08, 150,000 aluminium round blanks are machined every year (raising of the inner edge), to be able to press in stainless steel round blanks into the said aluminium round blanks with the other two 2-column presses in the next work step. The basic equipment of the two similar presses is thus flexible that pans (approx. 90%) as well as pots (approx. 10%) can be machined with them.

CWIEME returns to Berlin for the 18th year running

CWIEME Berlin, the world’s largest and most comprehensive event in the coil winding, insulation and electrical manufacturing industry, returns this summer with a greater and more engaging offer to visitors.

On the 24-25th June over 7,000 engineers, designers, buyers and academics from around the world will descend on the Messe Berlin in Germany for CWIEME Berlin 2014 – the largest annual meeting place for the global coil winding, insulation and electrical manufacturing community. New material to replace any metal

In microtechnology and high precision machining, it is always difficult to find the perfect fit between the materials, the coolant, the tools and the machine. In every field, specialists are fighting to find the perfect mix between all those parameters. The University Of Bern, Switzerland, may have put all those troubles to a stop.

New material

This morning the University’s spokesman announced the achievement of the new nano-structured material whose proprieties can change according to the level of microwaves you submit it.

One single material for every application
Dr. Ing. Günther Huxley says: “It’s a great achievement we’re proud to present to the world after more than 10 years of researches. With the new Flexistuff®, we can replace any kind of material.” Actually the process is quite genial, you submit the material to a microwave frequency specified by design and the output is a material with the same proprieties as Stainelss steel, Titanum, PEEK, brass or any material.

Accurate proprieties according to the wavelength
Microwaves are a form of electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths ranging from as long as one meter to as short as one millimeter, or equivalently, with frequencies between 300 MHz (0.3 GHz) and 300 GHz. This broad definition includes both UHF and EHF (millimeter waves), and various sources use different boundaries. In all cases, microwave includes the entire SHF band (3 to 30 GHz, or 10 to 1 cm) at minimum, with RF engineering often putting the lower boundary at 1 GHz (30 cm), and the upper around 100 GHz (3 mm).

And there is more
Some material are hard to machine and with this new material, you can machine it easily as Brass and once machined you put the parts into a microwave oven and change its structure into the material you want. M. K. H. Scheer, specialists in high precision machining says: “For us it’s a great development, we will be able to machine our medical implants as easily as in brass (first microwave specification before machining) and then change the proprieties. That will save us many troubles and we will also be able to offer a better price for our parts”. This will also help implants manufacturer keep cost under control.
