Machines

New, strong, precise …and simple

September 2012

Hermle AG is presenting its new C 400 basic machining center at the AMB in Stuttgart. The new 5-axis machining center is showcased at Stand D 52 in Hall 7.0, and is sure to find a place on the market thanks to its strength and precision.

With this machine the company offers the Hermle quality with less customizing possibilities and very attractive price.

Hermle has drawn upon its proven core competence in 5-axis technology to develop the C 400 basic, which builds upon the tried-and-trusted modified gantry design using mineral casting and has 3 tool axes and 2 workpiece axes (NC swiveling rotary table). Since an increasing number of manufacturers are taking up this axis concept and extolling its suitability for 5-axis machining, we can assume that the concept has now established itself in the world of 5-axis technology.”But the original’s only available from Hermle” says Udo Hipp Marketing director met at AMB.

Simple, proven and reliable Thanks to the strength and precision of the machining center, a high machining volume can be achieved while retaining top precision and optimum surface properties. The mineral cast machine bed ensures the required static stability, this being reinforced by the center’s four legs. Hermle’s structure with the X, Y, and Z axes in the tool and the A and C axes in the workpiece has been tried and tested thousandfold on the market, creating a perfect 5-axis machining center thanks to the perfect interaction of all 5 axes.

Original design However, to enable machining that is both precise and strong, powerful main spindles are also required. Like always, Hermle has not compromised on the design of the C 400 basic. With speeds of 15000/18000 rpm (SK 40/HSK A 63), powerful milling spindles that ensure high machining volumes and the precise machining of quality surfaces are available. Naturally, both spindles are equipped with Hermle’s patented collision protection system, which is extremely well regarded by customers. In the case of a collision in the Z-direction, the collision energy is absorbed by six displacement sleeves, which in many cases prevents the spindle from being damaged.

Technical data

With this machine, Hermle comes back to the roots, M Hipp Says: “We offers so complete machining solutions that sometimes our customers have classified us as provider of high end and totally customizable solutions and do not think about Hermle when needing a “simple machine”. With the new C 400 basic we offer it to them”.

You can still discover this machine at AMB till the end of the week.
